It is a classic movie - it was 3 hours long, but it really never ever felt like it. Stylistically it is amazing. It is an amazing executed film. Both Denzel and Russell do an amazing job...and it will most likely get nominated for a bunch of Oscars. But I was sitting there thinking - is this film too mass for me? I think it is.

Control. I was into this film the entire time. The first hour was slow...but I could have been me and my impatience. But I loved it. Everything about it was beautiful.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. BRILLIANT. There is nothing wrong with this film - and if there was you really didn't care because the storytelling is so amazing. This will be nominated a ton - at least it better. And it should win best supporting actor and best director. Wow, this film was powerful.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

My visit to NYC

<img style="display:block; Zodiac - Fincher has done it again. Not as crazy paced as Fight Club and not as bizarre as Seven, but just as brilliant as both. It sure didn't feel like 3 hours. This is quite a story packed into less than 3 hours and it is told so well!
2. Yes, Anastasia by Tori Amos - this song is around 10 years old. I have been getting tired of my current playlist so I have gone back to some of my favorites. i had to listen to this song a few times in a row. It's quite a journey and story.
3. 13 Tzameti - one of the best french films i have ever seen.
4. Sweet Escape music video by Gwen Stefani
5. My new converse designed by John Varvatos
6. The Black Donnellys
7. Daydreaming about NYC
8. Helen Mirren was great. It was like watching the queen herself. I also saw...

Half Nelson - what a great movie

Jackass 2 - so funny...the horse semen part almost made me vomit,

The Black Donnellys - a new show on NBC that you can rent the first episode from Netflix...its a show that is good, and will get better...pilots usually suck.

Running With Scissors - wow, the critics didn't like this film, yet it was marketed as such a huge and great movie. It was lame. No need to watch this one.

Hollywoodland - it was ok. i mean, it was good...worth seeing. but i see why it isn't nominated for awards, yeah know.

Crank - great action movie.

American Dreamz - umm..entertaining, pretty much. but nothing great. i mean, yeah, it exactly what i should be.

Down in the Valley - now i love Edward Norton and he doesn't disappoint thin this film. This was a great movie.

Sherrybaby - Maggie Gyllenhaal was good. But I didn't love the movie. there really isn't any b-story lines really, and it is just a long process. I have wanted to see this one since Sundance 2006.

Quinceanera - this was a great film, also coming from Sundance 2006. I really enjoyed it, in fact I watched it twice in a row.

Conversations with Other Women - interesting film, different concept, the split screen gets annoying but glad the filmmaker did it and kept his vision.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Best of 2006

Top 10 Movies
1. Now, I also really enjoyed Capote - there are some things that seperate the two, even though it does follow the same story line. Infamous really goes into the relationship of Truman and these inmates while Capote touched on it a few times, I mean it did more than touch on it, but in Infamous they really dig deep.

The Departed was good. Scorsese can make a good movie. He can also make a bad movie - Gangs of New York. There were some continuity problems...such as Leo is drinking water in one shot but then in the next shot he isn't holding the glass, than in the next shot the glass reappears in his hands - hmmmm. bad editing just like the Aviator (yeah, it won the academy award for editing - which makes you ask, did these people even watch the movie??? i mean it was 3 hours.) but yeah, had major editing problems just like the Aviator, but that just shows ya people don't care about it. which is sad.

On DVD I just finished Friends With Money. More like a bad episode of Desperate Housewives. This movie was dumb. Had no purpose. Great talent but bad movie. So stupid. I don't even know what they got the title from. Ugh. So dumb.

I also watched the Plague - not a bad zombie movie. not the greatest, but ok. And than I watched a movie about some rape and murder in LA, and it was so stupid. Who is making these movies? and where are they getting their money? geez.

I actually interviewed to work on a film, Filet of Soul Productions. (what kind of name is that? stupid) and the producer and director were 2 of the biggest jerks i have ever met in my life. there are a few of them in Hollywood, as you can guess, but it was a misrable experience. Their jokes were really bad and really old, jokes we've all heard, but they like to say them over again because it reminds them of when they could actually get it up...like, oh, you're from utah, how many wives do you have? ha ha. yeah, that's funny. anyways, these are the kind of guys that make these bad movies and think they are actually doing something good.

but really they are lame.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Marie A, the Prestige, Flags...and a few DVD's

I have really caught up with some films the past few days. First I saw Marie Antoinette. Visually it is beautiful. And overall it is a great film. But it's not amazing. I don't know why. Coppola is so good at this art form and it comes out gorgeous...but yeah, it wasn't amazing.

The Prestige was amazing. Christopher Nolan has become the important American Filmmaker that we all thought we would be when we witnessed Memento at Sundance back in 2001. I loved this movie.

Flags of our Fathers is also an amazing film. Eastwood is so good. I love that man and I've never even seen him. (how strange is that?) But it is so well done...and yes, I did cry.

Than it was DVD fest at my house. I watched The Cavern, The Dark, The New Kids, Deuce Bigalow European Gigalo...and they were all pretty dumb dumb dumb. Than I watched surrender, Dorothy...and the writing had some problems. But ok movie, but dumb. If Diane Keaton weren't in it I wouldn't have finished it. Now I'm watching Cache and I like it. Sometimes I am in the mood to watch a slow French movie, where the camera just sits there and doesn't move. It's a cold, rainy day here in LA so it feels perfect.

Now I need to see Infamous, Running with Scissors, and the Departed all before this weekend when Babel comes out.

(I am just glad that finally there are real movies in the theaters!)
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Movies on my list

Ok, so the box office has been very funny the past 3 weeks. Movies are tanking and it kinda makes me laugh because Hollywood doesn't get it. Anyways, despite all that, and bad reviews, i have a list of film i want to see, and films you should see - and maybe even films you shouldn't see.

THE BLACK DAHLIA - ok, bad reviews, but I still want to see it. What can I say, I love Hilary Swank.
FEARLESS - Jet Li is amazing, and I always love a good fight movie.
JACKASS 2 - The first one killed me. Johnny makes me laugh.
THE LAST KISS - I'm interested.
HOLLYWOODLAND - Also interested, but will probably be a rental.
CRANK - rental, although I would like to see it - maybe it's a sneek into movie.
BROTHERS OF THE HEAD - really mad i missed this one the week it was in theaters here in LA. So rental, but very excited to see it.
SHERRYBABY - in theaters now, but i think it's a rental.

movies you should see
THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP - I love it. It was my number 2 movie at Sundance 2006
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - laughed and laughed. my number 1 movie at Sundance 2006
FLY BOYS - this movie has a very sweet love story, and the film is very family friendly, no language or nudity, little violence.

movies i'm excited for
A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS - something i didn't get to see at Sundance 2006, but really really wanted to.
AMERICAN HARDCORE - another film i really wanted to see but didn't get to at Sundance 2006.

So, after making this list, there are only a few films that i am actually really excited to see, and the both come out this weekend. anyways, there are my thoughts.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Friday

So it's friday - and not a lot happened this week. Went to a premiere, that was fun. Had great conversation afterwards with the writer. I really enjoyed that. Other than that I've been pretty down.

I have been watching Sex and the City on HBO On Demand, and the series just wrapped up. It was sad. Why do I love Carrie Bradshaw? I don't know. I can't figure it out. And the show's been over for a few years now. Strange. I guess that shows it is good writing.

Nip/Tuck has not disappointed. I watched the beginning of 6 Degrees. I couldn't get into it, so I changed the channel. I have a lot of respect for JJ Abrahms, so I was sad I didn't get into the show. And do I belive we are all really only 6 Degrees away from each other? Some people yes. It depends on how far you want to stretch one of those degrees - as in you lived on the same block, or same building - doesn't mean we talked to each other or we even knew each other's names.

I'm going to see the Psychodelic Furs tomorrow night. I'm very excited. I've never seen them.

It's interesting that I keep this blog up when noone reads it. Oh well. Lost doesn't begin until October, and The OC doesn't begin until November. Ahhh - and then we have 24 in January. I can't handle the wait.

Survivor has begun and it was quite an issue to get through the episode. I had it recorded on my DVD-RW, but the DVD was crappy and didn't record it. So I had to buy it off iTunes. And then my computer lagged so it was jumpy. ugh....so I just took a nap.

This week we have Amazing Race - yeah!!! - and ...Old Christine, The Class, The Office, Earl, and a few others. ABC's site is ridiculous. It won't tell you the dates of when the season premiers are on. I hate them. So I have no idea when Desperate Housewives premieres. I hate that ABC site.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Idlewild, Paris, and Fergie.

ok, so I went and saw Idlewild yesterday. I downloaded 2 songs from the album before and fell in love with them - Call the Law, and PJ and Rooster - great songs. Anyways, the first wasn't in the movie, and the second was a pathetic wanna be show tune performance during the credits. Granted the production design for this number was awesome, had a lot of potential as a show piece, but fell very flat - Andre was doing everything he could to keep it together -but where was his support???!!! His backup dancers, etc, were all lame. Anyways, the film is fun. It's entertaining and enjoyable. Has some great laughs and some great dance numbers. And some of the moments - musically - are fantastic. (did i just say fantastic?) When Andre Benjamin wakes up and sings with his clocks - you just want to scream out - YES!

Paris Hilton - not a fan at all. But i was watching this documentary on her about her new album...and the producers of the album went on and on at how hard Paris worked on it. Granted, how hard is it to really sit in a studio and work on an album? Yes it's hard, I've done it twice, but it's fun. It's something I like to do. So it really doesn't make it work. It's not like she was doing the accounting. Anyways, there is a song on her album, I Want You, and I do like it. I think it's a fun song. So, there's my Paris.

Fergie - gag. give it up. London Bridge??? Uhhhh, did you listen to Hollahback Girl? Because is sure sounds like it. Gwen was at least original. Who are you Fergie? Following in footsteps that are still fresh. Do your own thing. You drive me nuts - you just wanna be Gwen - you dress like her and than copy her music. And on that note, Beyonce has 2 songs that sound like Hollahback Girl. What's up with that?
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Finally the fall TV season

This summer TV has sucked. There's no other way to put it. I did get into So You Think You Can Dance, the choreographers they on there were amazing...so it's always great to see a good dance number. But other than that, TV sucked. I had high hopes for Big Brother - as I was a huge fan during the 4th and 5th season. But was very let down to see who actually was put on the show - guess there weren't enough past house guests that wanted to do it again. And all the talent searches - America's Got Talent, The One, Rock Star, all fell flat to me - Rock Star was at least watchable.

But I was very happy for Prison Break to start. Fox has also started a few other shows - none of which I could sit through. And I know Nip/Tuck begins this coming week...so...good stuff is coming and it's about time.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

The Illusionist and parker posey

This is the movie i saw today. ESPN said Maria looked to serious in the commercial, but I love it. I love her contrasting energy against everyone that she passes. And having the passer-bys singing the lines of "I Feel Pretty" is done very well, especially playing with the tone and quality of the different voices. But the killer for me, what really makes me love this commercial is the final shot of Maria, after the 200 mph return, the shot of her walking to the camera and taking her stance. I love this shot. He did a fine job, it was good to see a different side of him...but it brings back memories of Jim Carrey. Daltry pulled in an estimated $12,400. What was the motivation of these characters (do you really have to kill eachother to escape? just look at the back of eacherother heads - do you have to be dead to do that)? What was the purpose of the fast paced editing (besides them not being able to film FEAR - they had to edit it in)? And the ending was a total cop out. Not worth your money. Not a true horror film. More annoying than horrifying.

Zorro wasn't the greatest either, but wasn't the worst. It made me laugh out loud a few times - which is a good thing. I enjoyed the performances of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Antonio Banderas, and the actor who plays their son, Adrian Alonso. They were funny when they were supposed to be funny, and they weren't trying to be something they are not. It was entertaining - just a little too long in the end fighting scene - or i should say scenes!
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.

Jarhead and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

So, last weekend I did a double feature, Jarhead being the superior film. The first problem with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is the narration - I'm not sure if the writer really wants you to be involved in the film. He keeps interrupting the film, pulling you away from these characters. So I never was connected to them - I didn't care what happened to them.

Jarhead was second. I had high hopes for this film and I wasn't disappointed. Now, I'm not saying this is going to be nominated for any Oscars, but I don't think it will hurt Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard on their road to the Oscars (Jake with very strong performances in Proof and the upcoming film Brokeback Mountain, and Peter in The Dying Gaul) I like Jake. I've liked Jake ever since I watched October Sky many many years ago. But what really made me a fan was when I saw Donnie Darko back at Sundance in 2001. That movie felt like the movie that I have always wanted to make. Anyways, I'm a fan of Jakes and always will be. And Jarhead was a good film.
Chit chat about movies, music, pop culture, and life.
